Arctic Vigor© Canine Supplement

ARCTIC VIGOR AND THE NATURAL COMBINATION
OF OMEGA-3/6 FATTY ACIDS

Arctic Vigor is a rather unique natural canine supplement/additive that evidence indicates has a profound effect on canine physiology. This natural supplement has a high Omega-3 content, low Omega-6 content, naturally occurring Vitamin E and Squalene. Dogs absolutely love the taste and do benefit from consumption.

Essential fatty acids are sources of Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids (technically categorized as polyunsaturated fatty acids - PUFA). The body must have these essential fatty acids, yet cannot synthesize them itself. One of the many functions of essential fatty acids is the production of prostaglandins which are hormone-like substances that regulate many body functions. They basically control every cell of the body on a second-by-second basis. They are required for energy production. They increase oxidation and metabolic rate. Energy levels increase with high stamina and decreased recovery time from fatigue. The brain does not function without essential fatty acids.

Arctic Vigor is a food grade oil suitable for human consumption that is derived from marine species found abundantly in the ice-cold waters of the North Atlantic. As a result of this pristine environment, many marine species have very unique biological characteristics which make them interesting as a renewable resource to be harvested for consumption.

Arctic Vigor oil is an all natural, extremely rich source of long-chain Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) which have attracted much interest and are the focus of medical and veterinary attention.

Research is beginning to show that the major cause of inflammatory and allergic diseases in today's society is a consequence of the imbalance between the Omega-3/6 fatty acid ratios in the diet.

The beneficial health effects of Omega-3 PUFA have been attributed to their ability to lower serum triglyceride and cholesterol. In addition, Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for normal growth and development and play a role in the prevention and treatment of hypertension, arthritis, inflammatory & autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and cancer of the breast & prostate.

Unlike saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, which can be synthesized by all mammals, including humans, the Omega-3 PUFA cannot be easily synthesized in the body and must be provided through the diet. The unique feature of Arctic Vigor oil, relates to the high content of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic (DHA), and to a lesser extent, docosapentaenoic acid (DPA). These PUFA are formed in unicellular phytoplankton and multicellular sea algae, and eventually pass through the food web and become incorporated into the body of higher predatory marine species. The high content of Omega-3 fatty acids in Arctic Vigor oil is suggested to be a consequence of cold temperature adaptation in which Omega-3 PUFA remain liquid and oppose any tendency to crystallize.

Omega-3 PUFA not only results in a decrease in plasma lipids by reduced synthesis of fatty acids & very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), they also have a direct effect on the heart muscle itself, increase blood flow, decrease arrythmias, improve arterial compliance, decrease the size of the infarct and reduce several cellular processes that compromise heart function. It has also been suggested that marine oils may retard arteriosclerosis through their effects on platelet function, platelet-endothelial interactions and inflammatory response.

The long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids have been found to have a marked effect on tissue development. Recent studies have demonstrated that DHA supplementation during pregnancy and lactation is necessary in order to prevent deficiency of the mother's DHA status during these periods in order to meet the high fetal requirement for DHA. It has also been shown that premature babies have lower levels of DHA in their tissues as compared to full-term babies. Thus, supplementation of infant formula with DHA/marine oils may be necessary in order to provide them with as much DHA as that available to their breast-fed counterparts. Feeding of infants with formula devoid of Omega-3 fatty acids resulted in lack of deposition of DHA in their visual and neural tissues and nervous system.

In comparing Arctic Vigor oil with other oils, assimilation of Arctic Vigor oil into the body is more efficient than other oils. EPA, DPA, and DHA in Arctic Vigor oil are located primarily in the terminal positions of the triglyceride molecules while they are preferentially present in the middle position of triglycerides in fish oils. This difference in the location of the Omega-3 PUFA is a major reason for the superior effect of Arctic Vigor oil as compared to other oils in disease prevention and potential health benefits.

Some fish oils (i.e., cod liver oil) can cause toxicity in your pet's body

Arctic Vigor oil can supply up to ten times as much DPA as fish oils

Flax seed oil is less beneficial because it is not converted to EPA or DHA by the body

Vegetable oils, such as safflower oil, sunflower oil, or even commercial products such as DermCaps, contain high levels of Omega-6 fatty acids which act as pro-inflammatory agents. Although some commercial pet food formulas contain Omega-3/6 fatty acids on their label, very little of the nutritional value is passed on to your pet because of the manufacturing process required in preparing the food and preventing rancidity.

Other benefits associated with consumption of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are well documented and listed below:

1. Affect HDL and LDL ratios positively

2. Reduce platelet stickiness

3. Increase circulation

4. Reduce Blood Pressure

5. Slow cholesterol production

6. Prevent inflammation and increase healing

7. Reduce joint tenderness

8. Stimulate the immune system

9. Assist in the balancing of hormones, especially

....as related to PMS and Menopause

10. Form a structural part of a cell membranes and

.... .thus regulate the traffic of substances in and out

.... .of cells in addition to protecting against invading

.... .toxins, bacteria, viruses, and allergens

11. Help with inflammatory problems

12. Crohn's disease

13. May inhibit growth of malignant cells

14. Depression

15. Skin and coat conditions

16. Aid digestion

Northern working dogs have traditionally consumed foods that nature provided in the environment. The majority of these foods were very high in Omega-3 fatty acid content and relatively low in Omega-6 fatty acid content. These dogs thrived on the food provided & worked endlessly in the harshest of environments. They had incredible stamina and strength as a result of the foods that they consumed. The majority of today's pets are fed commercially prepared foods with high levels of Omega-6 fatty acids mostly derived from vegetable matter which is an unnatural food source for canines. Despite the nutritional value associated with most commercial pet food formulas there are increasing heath problems in the canine population related to allergies and skin conditions. One cannot help but wonder if it is the choice of fat used in many formulations.

Skin, fur, nails, and hair are made from protein and fatty acids. The health of these membranes and other soft tissues such as the brain, heart, eyes, etc., depends, to a degree, on the type and proportions of fatty acids available. A dog cannot be expected to have soft, silky hair or healthy skin and correct biological function if the Essential Fatty Acid balance is incorrect.

The natural treatment for many ills is through a more traditional canine diet, without using drugs which often have serious side-effects. It only takes a small amount of this traditional, natural, concentrated, balanced product to adjust the Omega-3/6 ratio in your dog's diet.

ARCTIC VIGOR has a high concentration of polyunsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids and a relatively low but important concentration of polyunsaturated Omega-6 fatty acids.

Make ARCTIC VIGOR a part of your dog's daily diet.

Ask your veterinarian or pharmacist about the benefits associated with Omega-3/6 fatty acids.
